Quirky Vintage is an online only shop, and the vintage she sells is sourced from all over the world, but thier speciality is imported dresses from Hong Kong.
so, about a week ago i got in touch with jenna, the founder and owner of http://www.quirkyvintage.co.uk/, and she kindly sent me two pieces of vintage clothing for me to review. when i received the items i was really excited to try them on and experiment with different ways of wearing them, i don't own alot of vintage style dress's and top's, so it was a real treat. i'm going to be honest here (as that's what reviews are all about) i didn't really give the dress a chance, i immediately saw it and thought i'm going to look awful in that, but like they say, some clothes just look alot better off the hanger. i've posted some pictures below and a few videos, along with the link to the website, so check them out to see the clothing in more detail.
jenna also provided me with some information about her company, how she got into it and what she loves about vintage clothing. last october she was made redundant, and a few days after she was on her way to a job interview in glasgow, where she was wandering around for ages in the pouring rain, not being able to find the building she was looking for. she decided from that moment she was no longer going to go to job interviews for dead out jobs, and with her redundancy money she set up her own online vintage clothing business. she states in her e-mail to me; "I absolutely love vintage clothing, I love how every single item has a story to it. When Im taking photos of my clothes, I often wonder what the girl who owned it was like or where she went when she wore the dress, its so interesting thinking up all the lifestyles they may have had. Really old clothes always have a presence around them, I once had an Edwardian dress and every picture I took of it, there was a shadow at the top right hand corner!"
the hong kong dress jenna sent was absolute lovely, it's short sleeved and knee-length with buttons all the way up it, the delicate floral pattern on it has a great contrast to the yellow backing colour, it looks lovely on, and is fitted around the waist, so is very flattering. it's not something i'd usually go for, but i can really see myself in it throughout the summer with a brown belt clenched at the waist. the price for it is very reasonable as well with it being only £13.99! the other item i got sent was the gorgeous cinderella sleeve top, this is a british piece of vintage, coming from the 70's period, but what makes it so unique is it having the quality of being handmade. the main colour of it is a very dark green; with red, blue, white and yellow small floral patterns on it. it has a zip on the back of it which goes down 3/4's of the actual length of the top. out of the two items, the top is definately my favourite, with it being more versatile, in the way you can dress it up and dress it down. i can really see myself wearing it with either ripper jeans in the day or a black bodycon skirt in the evening and lots of gold jewellery. i couldn't actually find this top itself on quirky vintage's website, but if i do find any more information about it, i shall let you know!
so yeah, overall quirky vintage has a beautiful collection of clothing online, there is absolutely nothing you could fault the company on. jenna was really lovely and so kind, so again a big thank you to her for sending me these 2 items! be sure to check out thier site, there's a whole range and variety of different items, from accessories to hong kong dress and plus size clothing. thier postage and packaging prices are very reasonable and another bonus is they come in very cute packaging (i'm a sucker for nice detail), which is dotted plastic with a pink ribbon tied into a bow around it.
hope you enjoyed this and be sure to check out our youtube channel :D
